Tell us your household's daily menu, oil and spice preference, and any allergy or medical diet such as diabetic, low salt or post-surgery food. We shortlist cooks who already cook that way rather than someone who has to learn on your kitchen.

• Jain cooking without onion, garlic or root vegetables

One shift, two shifts or live-in cook

A single shift cook usually covers breakfast and lunch, or dinner alone, in about two to three hours. A two shift cook comes morning and evening, which most working couples prefer so both meals are fresh.

A live-in cook makes sense for large or joint families, homes with elderly members on a fixed diet, and households that entertain guests often. Live-in cooks also help with kitchen cleanup, storage and grocery lists.

Hygiene and kitchen discipline we insist on

• Clean uniform or covered clothing and tied hair
• Hand washing before handling food, separate veg and non-veg boards
• Platform, sink and gas cleaned after every shift
• No reuse of stale oil, dated storage of leftovers
• Grocery quantity reported honestly to the family

What a home cook costs

Cook salary depends on shifts per day, number of family members, cuisine complexity and whether non-vegetarian cooking is involved. A one-shift cook for a couple costs far less than a two-shift cook for a family of six with a Jain menu.

We share the exact range on the call along with the one-time placement fee, and we never add per-visit charges after she joins.

Before the trial, taste test her cooking

We encourage a paid taste trial. Ask the cook to prepare two or three regular dishes from your weekly menu, then judge oil level, spice, roti texture and cleanliness of the kitchen afterwards. This one step prevents most cook replacements.
